Range Information

Established in 1949 as the “Kansas Field and Gun Dog Association”. Powder Creek was known as “A Place To Run The Dogs And Get Dogs Used To Gun Fire.” Since those early days, Powder Creek has grown in membership and is the most complete Shooting Sports Center in the Kansas City Metropolitan area.

Powder Creek is a Full Service Gun Club located four miles West of I-435 on 87th Street and 3/8 of a mile South on Monticello Road in the Western edge of Lenexa, Kansas. The Club is member owned and operated through our Board of Directors. The Board is elected by our voting membership.

Powder Creek offers Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays for Members and the public, a Stocked Fishing Pond, and a newly-remodeled club house in which to relax, socialize, or hold corporate outings.
We hold registered shooting events, fun shoots, leagues, and our facilities are available for corporate outings.

For detailed information on Powder Creek’s Shooting Ranges, see Shotgun Disciplines. Better yet, take the opportunity to visit Powder Creek and enjoy our relaxed, friendly atmosphere, diverse shooting opportunities, and a heritage steeped in the shooting sports traditions spanning 60 years. See you soon!

Trap

Powder Creek has five trap fields, four of which are dedicated solely to trap and the other shared with a skeet field. All trap fields are lighted for evening and night-time use. The four dedicated trap fields feature automatic Beomat and Pat Traps, along with Canterbury Voice Release Systems. The concrete shooting pads on these fields were replaced in 2002 and the landscaping completed in early 2003. The second of two shelters was completed in 2003.

Singles, doubles and handicap targets are thrown to ATA standards. ATA Registered Shoots are held throughout the year. Spring, summer, and fall Trap Leagues are conducted with league shooting generally occurring on Thursday evenings.

The registered trap shoot program at Powder Creek can be found at Registered Shoots for dates, program, and shoot results.

Skeet

We have 3 skeet fields, all of which are lighted.

Sporting Clays

Sporting clays is a form of clay pigeon shooting, often described as “golf with a shotgun” because a typical course includes from 10 to 15 different shooting stations laid out over natural terrain. Unlike trap and skeet, which are games of repeatable target presentations, sporting clays simulates the unpredictability of live-quarry shooting, offering a great variety of trajectories, angles, speeds, elevations, distances, and target sizes.

Powder Creek Shooting Park offers a scenic 12 station course featuring a wide variety of spcialty targets. Powder Creek utilizes all electric machines which allows for a multitude of presentations and eliminates the need for a trapper. The graveled trail through the woods around the Sporting Clays Course is sheltered from wind and sun. The course is changed on a regular basis.

Simply bring a friend and enjoy one of the most exciting shotgun sports.

We hold NSCA registered shoots, sporting clays leagues, fun shoots corporate events during the year.
